I don’t shout about what I do — but I’ve spent over 27 years doing it.

My background is in marketing, and over the years, I’ve worked across industries, teams, and campaigns. Today, I run a small business helping other small and medium-sized businesses with their social media, design, and content — offering flexible, reliable support that fits around how they work.

There’s no big agency. No fancy jargon. Just honest, thoughtful help from someone who gets on with the job behind the scenes.

What I Do

Most of my clients don’t have a dedicated marketing person. They’re busy running their own businesses — whether it’s lettings, cleaning, printing, property, or something else entirely. They don’t need a full-time marketing team. They just need someone who knows what needs doing and can quietly take care of it.

That’s where I come in.

I help with:

Writing and scheduling social media posts

Designing graphics and marketing materials

Creating adverts and flyers

Supporting campaigns and events

Offering marketing ideas and advice when needed

It’s not about huge strategies or monthly reports. It’s about doing the work — well, consistently, and with care.

How I Work

I keep things simple and flexible. Some of my clients need regular weekly support. Others just want someone to step in now and then when things get busy. Either way, I fit around their business, not the other way around.

And while I don’t need recognition or the spotlight, I take real pride in my work. I go the extra mile when it’s needed (without adding it to the invoice) and genuinely want the best for the businesses I work with.

Why It Works

Because it’s personal. I build long-term working relationships with my clients. I understand their businesses, their tone, their audience — and I make their marketing feel like it’s truly theirs, not something outsourced to someone detached.

I’ve worked across a wide range of industries, and I love the variety. Every brief is different, and I enjoy the challenge of figuring it out. I’m always happy to hear from anyone looking for calm, reliable support with their content or marketing.

If you’ve found your way to Social Beans, chances are someone sent you here.

That’s how every single client I’ve worked with has come to me — not through ads or big campaigns, but through good, old-fashioned recommendations. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why word-of-mouth matters

Word-of-mouth is powerful. It’s built on trust, real experiences, and results that speak for themselves. When someone recommends a service, they’re putting their own reputation on the line. That means more to me than any click or conversion ever could.

And when a client recommends me, I see that as the highest compliment.

It starts with doing the right thing

I’m not interested in overcharging or upselling things that aren’t needed. What I am interested in is doing the work well — exactly as agreed in the proposal — and delivering it with care and clarity.

And quite often, I’ll go that little bit further. If something comes up that wasn’t in the plan but will make a difference, I’ll sort it. I don’t bill for every tweak or call. I focus on building relationships, not racking up the invoice.

People remember how you made them feel

I’ve always believed that people remember more than just what you did — they remember how you made them feel. So if I can make the process smoother, clearer, and even enjoyable (yes, marketing can be enjoyable!), then I’ve done my job properly.

When a client feels looked after, understood, and not pressured by costs or jargon, they’ll happily recommend you. Not because they were asked to — but because they want to.

Growing naturally — and sustainably

I’m proud that Social Beans has grown through recommendation. It means the relationships I’ve built are real, and the work I’ve done has had an impact. That kind of growth might be slower than aggressive sales strategies — but it’s genuine. And it lasts.

Running a business isn’t just about invoices and chargeable hours. For me, it’s about people and helping people. That’s why I set up my business and that has always been the driving force behind what I do.

The Problem with “Billable Everything”

Before starting my own business, I worked in companies where every single minute was tracked. Time was money — literally. As an employee, it was draining. As a client, I imagine it must’ve been incredibly frustrating. I remember being told I could only have one 20-minute phone call with a client per week. That was it.

What if they had a question? What if they needed support or a bit of guidance? It didn’t matter — it was all classed as billable. It just felt wrong. And I knew I didn’t want to build a business like that.

People Over Profit

When I launched my own business, I made a clear decision: people come first. I don’t charge clients for questions or five-minute jobs. If something takes me a few minutes, I’ll just do it — no invoice, no fuss. It’s part of the service.

I also don’t charge per phone call. I have clients who call me just for a chat, and that’s absolutely fine. That human connection, that trust — it matters. You can’t put a price on that, and I never try to.

A Better Way to Do Business

I believe in fair pricing, honest work, and doing right by people. I’d rather build long-term relationships than chase short-term profit. I treat clients how I’d want to be treated — with respect, transparency, and flexibility where needed.

If that sounds like the kind of business you want to work with, you’re in the right place.

We’ve all been there, and overthinking is something we all experience, especially in the business world. Whether you’re running your own company or managing a team, it’s easy to get caught in a cycle of analysing every decision to the point where it becomes paralysing. But what exactly is overthinking, and how can we overcome it to make better, quicker business decisions?

Overthinking in business happens when you get stuck in your thoughts, analysing every aspect of a decision so much that it creates stress or stalls progress. While it’s important to be thorough, overthinking can lead to missed opportunities and slow growth. Learning to manage this tendency can streamline your decision-making process and boost your business’s success.

Why Do We Overthink in Business?

Several factors contribute to overthinking in a business context. Here are a few common ones:

1. Fear of Failure
In business, the stakes often feel high. Fear of making the wrong decision can lead to overanalysing every detail to avoid potential failure. This fear can make even routine decisions feel huge, causing delays and missed opportunities.

2. Perfectionism
I am guilty of this – the desire to have everything just right. Whether it’s launching a new product or preparing a presentation, the pursuit of perfection can lead to overthinking. You might spend too much time tweaking small details, delaying the overall progress.

3. Low Confidence in Decisions
When you’re not confident in your decisions, it’s easy to fall into the trap of overthinking. Doubts about whether you’re making the right choice can cause you to second-guess yourself, leading to indecision and frustration.

4. Information Overload
In today’s business environment, we’re constantly bombarded with data and opinions. With so much information at our fingertips, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and overthink even simple decisions. The fear of missing out on crucial details can lead to analysis paralysis.

How Overthinking Affects Business

Overthinking can have several negative effects on your business:

1. Slows Down Decision-Making
Overanalysing every aspect of a decision can lead to delays. In business, time is often of the essence, and slow decision-making can result in missed opportunities.

2. Stifles Innovation
When you overthink, you might be less willing to take risks. This caution can stifle creativity and innovation, leaving your business stagnant while others move forward.

3. Strains Relationships
Overthinking can also impact your business relationships. Whether it’s with clients, partners, or employees, constantly second-guessing decisions can lead to frustration and miscommunication.

How to Stop Overthinking in Business

The good news is that you can learn to manage overthinking in business. Here are some effective strategies:

1. Steven Bartlett’s Approach
Steven Bartlett, a successful entrepreneur, has a simple yet powerful approach to dealing with overthinking. Each morning, he tells himself that he will do his best that day. At the end of the day, if something didn’t go as planned, he reminds himself that there’s nothing he can do to change it. He is able to unattach himself from the past and the future and instead of dwelling on it, he learns from the experience and moves forward. Adopting this mindset in business can help you focus on progress rather than perfection. Watch this short video here

2. Focus on Key Objectives
In business, it’s important to keep your eye on the bigger picture. When you start to overthink, refocus on your key objectives. Ask yourself if the decision you’re obsessing over really aligns with your core goals. If not, it might not be worth the time and mental energy you’re spending on it.

3. Embrace Imperfection
Remember, no decision will ever be perfect. Accept that making mistakes is part of the business journey. What matters is that you learn from them and improve over time. This mindset can free you from the paralysing grip of overthinking and allow you to take bold steps forward.

Conclusion

Overthinking in business is common, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. By adopting a mindset focused on progress, prioritising decisions, and embracing imperfection, you can overcome overthinking and make quicker, more effective decisions. Remember, business success often comes from taking action and learning from experience. If something doesn’t go perfectly today, it’s OK! Take it as a lesson and try again tomorrow.

Effective marketing is essential for growth and success in today’s competitive business environment. However, not all companies have the resources to hire a full-time social media manager or marketing professional. This is where hiring an experienced freelance marketing expert can be a game-changer. A freelancer brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to your business at a fraction of the cost of a full-time employee. Here are some key benefits of integrating an experienced freelance marketing professional into your team.

Cost-Effectiveness

One of the most significant advantages of hiring a freelance marketing professional is the cost savings. Full-time employees come with additional expenses such as salaries, benefits, and office space. On the other hand, freelancers work on a contract basis, meaning you only pay for their work. This flexibility allows businesses to allocate their marketing budget more efficiently, investing in specific projects or campaigns as needed without the overhead costs associated with full-time staff.

Expertise and Experience

Freelance marketing professionals often bring a diverse range of experiences to the table. Many have worked with various companies across different industries, giving them a broad perspective and a deep understanding of marketing strategies that work. Their expertise can be invaluable in crafting effective marketing campaigns, optimising social media presence, and driving business growth. By hiring a freelancer, you gain access to this wealth of knowledge and experience, which can be a significant asset to your marketing efforts.

Flexibility and Scalability

Freelancers offer unmatched flexibility, allowing you to scale your marketing efforts up or down based on your business needs. Whether you need help with a one-time project, ongoing social media management, or seasonal campaigns, a freelance marketing professional can adapt to your requirements.

Accessibility and Availability

A common misconception is that freelancers are less available than full-time employees. However, many experienced freelance marketing professionals prioritise communication and accessibility. They understand the importance of being reachable and responsive, making themselves available via phone, email, messaging apps, or online platforms such as Google Meet or Zoom. This ensures that they are effectively integrated into your team and participate in meetings, brainstorming sessions, and strategy discussions just like any other team member.

Fresh Perspectives and Innovation

Hiring a freelance marketing professional can inject fresh ideas and innovative strategies into your business. Because freelancers work with a variety of clients, they are often exposed to new ideas. This external perspective can lead to creative solutions and new approaches that an in-house team may not have considered.

Focus on Core Business Activities

Outsourcing marketing tasks to a freelancer lets you and your team focus on core business activities. Marketing can be time-consuming, and delegating these responsibilities to a dedicated professional ensures that your marketing efforts are handled expertly, while you concentrate on other critical aspects of your business. This division of labour enhances overall productivity and ensures that all areas of your business receive the attention they deserve.

Reliability and Trust

Experienced freelance marketing professionals build their reputations on reliability and trust. They understand the importance of meeting deadlines, delivering quality work, and maintaining open communication. By developing a reliable partnership with a trusted freelancer, you can be confident that your marketing tasks are in capable hands.

Conclusion

Incorporating an experienced freelance marketing professional into your team offers numerous benefits, from cost savings and flexibility to expertise and innovative strategies. These professionals bring a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective, helping your business achieve its marketing goals without the overhead costs of a full-time employee. By leveraging the skills and experience of a freelancer, you can enhance your marketing efforts, drive business growth, and maintain a competitive edge in today’s dynamic market. If you’re looking for an effective and efficient way to boost your marketing capabilities, consider hiring a freelance marketing professional today.

Are you a small business owner wanting to have more of a social media presence, but either do not have the time, the resources or the know-how? We can help.

You might be wondering why it’s worthwhile to reach out to a small family business like ours in a world where big businesses rule the scene. Opting for our small, family-owned business will allow you to have a more personal, meaningful experience. We value developing relationships with our clients that go beyond simple business dealings, you definitely won’t be just “another account number”. Whether it’s a casual meet-up for a coffee or a friendly phone conversation, we believe in the power of meaningful and direct interactions.

A further benefit we offer is flexibility. Unlike bigger companies, we can change quickly to meet your unique needs. You will receive a level of service that is tailored to your needs. We are aware that no two situations are the same, and we are here to deliver specialised solutions with accuracy and efficiency. We also provide our services without tying you down with lengthy agreements. This flexibility gives you peace of mind by enabling you to test out our services without the pressure of a long-term commitment.

Our main goal is to offer an exceptional quality of service, whether that be consistently pushing your brand messages through social media channels, managing tradeshows, designing material for print, we will go above and beyond to ensure that our clients are happy.

Another benefit to opting for a smaller marketing agency is that we don’t pass on any overheads. Our head office is in our garden, ideas happen around the kitchen table. We are not about charging clients thousands of pounds per month, we are about delivering quality work at affordable prices.

I started Social Beans because I wanted to help small businesses with their social media and marketing and 5 years on I still maintain that ethos. I do what I do because I love helping people, I enjoy the satisfaction I get when clients say thank you. I am not in it for blood sweat and tears, I’ve been there and done that in other agencies that I have worked for in the past. Social Beans is not your average agency, we are flexible, we are professional and above all we care.

If you are a small business owner you know that running a small business on your own is a journey filled with highs, lows, and unexpected twists. In the solitary realm of entrepreneurship, the twin pillars of resilience and persistence stand as the unsung heroes, propelling solo business owners towards success in the face of challenges. Let’s explore why these qualities are not just valuable assets but indispensable lifelines.

Navigating the Roller Coaster of Challenges

Owning a small business is like riding a roller coaster – exhilarating highs and challenging lows are par for the course. The ability to bounce back from setbacks is the essence of resilience. Whether it’s financial setbacks, unexpected market changes, or personal hurdles, resilient entrepreneurs view challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to learn, adapt, and grow. In the face of adversity, they stand firm, ready to weather the storm and emerge stronger on the other side.

Overcoming the Fear of Failure

Solo entrepreneurs often grapple with the fear of failure, a shadow that looms over every decision. However, those who persist and remain resilient view failure not as a dead-end but as a detour on the road to success. Each stumble is a chance to refine strategies, learn valuable lessons, and ultimately move closer to their goals. By embracing failure as a stepping stone rather than a stumbling block, solo business owners pave their way to long-term success.

Staying the Course with Persistence

The path to success is rarely a straight line, and persistence is the compass that keeps solo entrepreneurs on track. The ability to set goals, remain focused, and stay committed to the vision despite challenges is what sets apart those who thrive from those who merely survive. Persistence is not just about enduring difficulties; it’s about consistently taking steps forward, no matter how small, towards the ultimate business objectives.

Building Lasting Relationships

In the world of solo entrepreneurship, building and maintaining relationships is paramount. Resilient and persistent business owners understand the value of authentic connections. Whether it’s networking with peers, nurturing client relationships, or seeking mentorship, these entrepreneurs recognise that relationships are not only a source of support but also a foundation for long-term success.

Celebrating Small Victories

In the pursuit of ambitious goals, it’s easy to overlook small victories along the way. Resilient and persistent entrepreneurs take the time to celebrate every milestone, no matter how minor. Recognising and acknowledging progress fuels motivation and provides a necessary boost during challenging times, fostering a positive mindset essential for continued perseverance.

In the challenging landscape of solo entrepreneurship, resilience and persistence are not just virtues – they are the very heartbeat of success. As you navigate the unpredictable journey of running a small business on your own, let these qualities be your guiding lights, propelling you forward with unwavering determination and an unshakeable belief in the potential for triumph over tribulations.

The key is what ever life throws at you, good or bad, Never Give Up

Is there ever a time you are so overwhelmed by your work that you are dragging it into your personal life? Are you always fighting missed deadlines, persistent anxiety, and an excessive workload? Then you are not by yourself. Many of us have had these difficulties, and disorganisation is frequently to blame.

Fortunately, achieving greater organisation at work doesn’t have to be an overwhelming challenge. You may restore control over your productivity and turn your workday from a chaotic one to a tranquil one with the correct tactics and a little dedication. We’ll go over a few effective strategies in this blog that will keep you organised at work. You’ll discover the secrets to increasing productivity and striking that long-lost work-life balance, from organising your digital and physical environments to refining your everyday routines.

Avoid Negative Brain Habits:

Retaining your physical and mental health is essential to working in an organised manner. Above all, develop the practice of regularly pausing to stretch and give your eyes a break from screens. Every 20 to 30 minutes, set a timer to remind you to do this. Furthermore, even if you tend to be more introverted, don’t undervalue the value of socialisation. You may maintain motivation and emotional fulfilment by having meaningful relationships with friends and family. It is impossible to operate cognitively without sleep. Make sure you get 8 hours or more of good sleep every night. Investing in black-out curtains and implementing deep breathing and meditation are some ways to enhance the quality of your sleep while managing chronic stress.

Maintain Organisation and Focus:

Establishing a “brain dump” space is an easy way to stay focused and organised. You can quickly scribble down any random ideas that may come to mind during concentrated work sessions in this designated area. The intention is to keep these ideas from becoming distractions so that you don’t miss any crucial information. Having a specific area set aside for brain dumps will help you stay on top of things and maintain mental clarity, regardless of whether you use digital tools like note-taking applications or cloud-based platforms like Google Docs, or more conventional ones like sticky notes or a diary.

Arrange Your Physical Space:

Your ability to remain organised is greatly influenced by the way you set up your workspace. It’s critical to create distinct links between designated areas and appropriate actions. Establish a work-only zone at your desk, for instance, and refrain from eating or using social media while at work. Maintaining a clean desk is equally vital. When everything on your desk has a specific “home,” you can keep your workspace clutter-free and minimise distractions that take away from productive work time.

Prioritise your tasks:

The secret to remaining organised at work is to effectively prioritise your tasks and strike a balance between your personal and professional goals. While meeting deadlines strictly is one strategy, it doesn’t always address the significance of the work at hand. Make use of prioritisation strategies like the Eisenhower Matrix, which groups tasks according to importance and urgency, or the “Eat the Frog” method, which advocates tackling the most difficult task first. Divide more ambitious goals into manageable short-term targets that can be finished in a month or two. Divide these goals down even further into manageable steps to create a successful road map.

Affective organisation has a direct impact on productivity, time management, and the success of a small business, so business owners need to be adept at it. An organised work schedule guarantees that assignments are finished quickly, reduces needless stress, and preserves a positive work-life balance.

In today’s world, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. From connecting with friends and family to promoting businesses and ideas, social media platforms have revolutionised the way we communicate and share information. While it may seem like an endless stream of posts, likes, and shares, there is a key principle that can significantly impact your online presence and success: regularity. In this blog, we will explore why posting regularly on social media is crucial and how it can enhance your online visibility, engagement, and overall impact.

Building Brand Awareness and Recognition

Consistently posting on social media helps create brand recognition and strengthens your online presence. When you consistently share content related to your brand, your followers become familiar with your message, values, and offerings. By maintaining an active presence, you reinforce your brand’s image and increase the likelihood of being recognized by potential customers or clients. Whether you’re an individual building a personal brand or a business expanding its reach, regular posting establishes a memorable presence in the minds of your audience.

Increasing Engagement and Reach

Social media algorithms tend to favor accounts that consistently produce fresh content. By posting regularly, you are more likely to appear in your followers’ feeds, increasing the chances of engagement and interaction with your content. Moreover, frequent posting demonstrates that you are actively engaged with your audience, fostering a sense of community and trust. Regular engagement encourages your followers to like, comment, and share your content, leading to increased visibility and a wider reach among new potential followers.

Building Trust and Credibility

Consistent posting on social media builds trust and credibility among your followers. When you consistently deliver high-quality content, your audience perceives you as reliable and committed. Regular posts give the impression that you are dedicated to providing value and maintaining a strong online presence. Over time, this consistency fosters trust, which is essential for establishing lasting relationships with your audience and potential customers.

Establishing a Content Schedule

Posting regularly on social media forces you to develop a content schedule and strategy, providing structure to your online presence. By planning your posts in advance, you can maintain a consistent flow of content, ensuring that your message remains coherent and aligned with your objectives.

Conclusion

In the fast-paced world of social media, consistency is key. By posting regularly, you can build brand awareness, increase engagement, and establish yourself as a credible and trusted source. Maintaining an active presence demonstrates your commitment to your audience and helps you stay relevant in an ever-changing digital landscape.
